Emily Herr, Certified Professional Dog Trainer

About Me

I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer through Animal Behavior College and an AKC Certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. With nearly two decades in animal welfare, I’ve built my career around helping animals grow, adjust, and succeed — especially those who need a little extra support along the way.

I believe every animal is an individual, shaped by their experiences and deserving of an approach tailored to their unique needs. Whether working with dogs or cats, I focus on thoughtful, relationship-based training that builds confidence and trust. I am especially passionate about the animals who may be overlooked or misunderstood, and I take pride in helping them find stability, confidence, and a path forward.

My Experience

With nearly 20 years of hands-on experience, I have developed extensive knowledge in both canine and feline behavior. From reading the subtle body language of a nervous dog to channeling the needs of a high-energy pup, my background allows me to provide thoughtful, well-rounded training and behavior support.

Whether you’re considering adding a new pet to your family, have recently welcomed one home, or are navigating behavioral challenges with a current companion, I’m here to offer clear guidance, practical solutions, and steady support every step of the way.

How I Can Help

I believe that every pet–guardian relationship has the potential to be happy, balanced, and deeply rewarding with the right guidance and support. My goal is to partner with you and your pet to create a home environment built on understanding, trust, and clear communication.

Whether through one-on-one training sessions, behavior consultations, or continued support along the way, we’ll work collaboratively to address challenges and build practical, lasting solutions.

MY SERVICES

Helping You Help Your Pet

It’s never too late to teach an old dog new tricks, and I believe it’s never too late to train any pet. My services are designed with you and your pet in mind, and I believe in working as much with you as with your animal. I’m proud of my high success rate and the level of satisfaction my clients, and their pets, come away with every time - guaranteed.

IN-HOME TRAINING

If your dog is struggling with a specific behavioral concern or you’re looking to build stronger skills and communication, in-home training with Bloomington Canine Services offers personalized support in a setting where your dog is most comfortable — your home.

As progress is made, sessions may expand into real-world environments such as local dog-friendly businesses, parks, or other locations where you’d like to see improvement. Every training plan is thoughtfully customized to fit your dog’s individual needs and your daily lifestyle.

Common goals include building reliable manners, foundational obedience, loose-leash walking, engagement through play, addressing leash reactivity, and safely understanding and managing aggressive behaviors — and much more.

At Bloomington Canine Services, training is designed to be engaging, practical, and a positive experience for both you and your dog.

SATISFIED OWNERS. HAPPIER PETS.

Happy as a Clam

I’ve worked with my dogs in the past, but none have been quite like my little yorkie mix, Moose. Emily has done an amazing job retraining me so I can effectively work with him! He came to us needing help with potty training, recall, walking on the leash and general manners. Emily has helped us to find solutions and a plan of action for every problem we’ve presented using gentle, reward based training. This has been key for results with his personality! She’s professional, patient, kind, compassionate and determined. I can’t recommend her enough!

Emily Hewitt

Highly recommend Emily. The level of direction she has given me with both my dogs’ behavioral challenges has been profound. She is incredibly dedicated, kind, and honest.

Lindsey Roy

“For more than a decade, Emily has been there for our pets when they needed her. From massaging sore old muscles, to helping with intractable training problems, Emily is a star, a real pet whisperer who communicates with our guys on a level I can’t hear. They love her and so do we. People with her skills are rare birds. If she’s available, snap her up.’
